Frequently asked questions
Is it completely free?
No Type and local dictation are free. If you connect a cloud model with your own API key, usage is billed separately by the provider.
Can I dictate offline?
Yes, once you have downloaded a local speech model. For text processing, choose a local model too, or turn off enhancement and translation.
Where does my voice go?
With local processing, your audio and text stay on your computer, where your history is also stored. With cloud processing, the selected provider receives audio for speech recognition or text for text processing.
Which apps can I dictate into?
No Type inserts text into the active field, such as a chat, email, browser or editor. If a field does not accept automatic insertion, you can copy the result from History.
Will it work on my computer?
You need an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 13+, or Windows 10/11 on an x64 processor with AVX2. Builds for Intel Macs and Windows ARM are not available yet.
Why choose No Type over built-in dictation?
No Type lets you choose local or cloud models, add your own terms to a dictionary and customize your writing style. You can also insert saved phrases with short voice commands.
